Now I don’t know about you, but once upon a time I heard whispers surrounding dry shampoo and all the possibly nasty things it can do to your head and hair.

It honestly terrified me and made me never want to use a dry shampoo for fear of seriously damaging my hair. It wasn’t until recently that I really took a deep-dive into the world of dry shampoos that I discovered the truth behind commercial brands and how bad long-term use can be for hair.

First of all, I’m not against dry shampoo, oh no. I’m actually all for using dry shampoo, but only specific types that are catered to taking care of your head and hair, keeping the skin on your scalp and your lovely locks luscious – of course, Hello Natural Co’s Good Hair Day Dry Shampoo is one of those wonderful products that aims to do just that, so I’ll get into why this little baby is a great buy a bit later on.

So what exactly does dry shampoo have in it and what does it do to your head?

Commercial brand dry shampoos are mostly aerosol, coming in a can and conveniently made to spray into roots and have you your way. While this is easy and quick, most aerosols actually contain alcohol and this in turn dries out your hair, causing the individual fibers in hair to snap and break when you brush or try to style it. I personally am not a fan of breakage in my hair and I’m sure you aren’t too keen on it either!

They also tend to contain a lot of artificial silicones and starches, plus talc, which both clog and block pores from releasing necessary oils and can even build up so much gunk that it can cause infections in the hair follicles! Talc in its mineral state contains asbestos, which is known to cause cancer, and though dry shampoo is not proven to be a dangerous product to that extent, the American Cancer Society even encourages people not to use products that contain talc until more research is done.

This begs the question, what does Hello Natural Co’s Dry Shampoo have in it that makes it so different? Is it healthier? The answer is… Yes, it is!

Here are the ingredients used in HNC’s Good Hair Day Dry Shampoo;

Zea Mays (Corn) Starch – Cornstarch is a much lighter and leaves behind a soft film on hair, making it appear dry and silky. It promotes blood flow and effectively soaks up excess sebum while also keeping your scalp and hair moisturised.

Kaolin Clay – This baby is perfect for stimulating hair follicles and gently exfoliates and cleanses the scalp when used to cleanse. But in a dry shampoo, Kaolin Clay strengthens hair, improves elasticity and helps to repair damaged hair, soothing the scalp and encouraging hair growth!

Sodium Bicarbonate – Baking Soda is perfect for absorbing excess moisture and removing buildup in the hair, giving you great volume and a cleansed scalp after washing!

Natural Silica – A natural silicone is integral to giving your hair a healthy shine and promotes healthy and strong hair, reducing hair loss.

Activated Charcoal – This little baby is like food for your hair and scalp! Not only does it cleanse impurities found on your head, but it removes excess sebum and deep cleanses the pores to let your scalp breathe! It unclogs pores and therefore detoxifies the follicles and makes hair grow healthy!

Vanilla & Lavender Essential Oils – Vanilla helps to give hair a radiant shine, leaving it silky and smooth and lavender is calming, calms inflammations, promotes healthy hair and prevents all kinds of nasties!

So you see, while dry shampoo is a super easy and time saving product to use, it can be a dangerous good if you use the wrong kind of brand.

Of course, you should always be sure to wash out dry shampoo every few days to prevent unnecessary product build up and keep your head and hair clean! Though if you’re looking for a dry shampoo that’s going to treat your hair right, give Hello Natural Co’s Good Day Dry Shampoo a try, it won’t disappoint!

Now go on out there and have your best hair day, everyday!
